Meet the Zoo Staff!
Sequoia Park Zoo has a small but capable staff who really make the zoo mission come to life!
At the very heart and center of our operation are a group of dedicated animal care staff who put the well-being of the zoo’s residents as their top priority. We have six zoo keepers who share the work of providing the best care possible for over 130 animals at the zoo. This is a big job and takes three keepers each day, 365 days a year, and sometimes evenings and nighttime work as well.
On your next visit, stop and chat about the animals with a keeper. They love to share their knowledge and appreciation of animals with visitors. Our animal care staff has over 70 years of combined professional zoo and wildlife experience from a variety of accredited zoos and projects around the country, and a well-rounded compliment of zoology-related degrees.
Our Head Keeper/Vet Tech coordinates the veterinary program and supervises animal care.
The important daily task of cleaning and maintaining our beautiful zoo grounds and facilities is shared by four part-time members of the zoo team. Several other departments within the City of Eureka also contribute a great deal of work at the zoo, such as landscaping maintenance (Parks Division) and facilities maintenance.
Because wildlife conservation education is our primary mission, we are proud to be growing our education department at Sequoia Park Zoo. Our Education Coordinator develops and coordinates everything from classes, curriculum, graphics and displays, to our volunteer programs and educational events. And overseeing the zoo operation, animal and staff management is our Zoo Manager, who helps dovetail the various zoo endeavors with the mission of Sequoia Park Zoo.
The Zoo Foundation Staff
The Zoo Foundation employs a handful of dynamic individuals who keep the gift shop, café and office running smoothly and effectively. They always go an extra mile to help zoo visitors have their best experience yet.
